POA Members Addressing the Board
Roads, Culverts - Raymond, Russ, Eileen, Curt
The culvert in the meadow is complete. There has been an
"undercutting slide" on the shoulder of Elk Ridge Road
near the existing guardrail. Cones should be placed
there to warn drivers. Confirm that the drawings
provided by the developer for moving the road closer to
the bank included consideration for long term correction
and appearance then proceed with moving the road
including paving the new strip, weather permitting. The
developer will provide some money to help defray the
costs. We have two culverts that will need to be
replaced soon, one on Granny's Ridge Road and one on
Wagon Ridge. These will be considered in next year's
budget.
Pool, Tennis Court, Playground, Volleyball areas
Raymond, Delaine
Pressure washing the log cabin playhouse and staining it
was started before last month's rains. When the weather
breaks in the spring, additional landscaping is to be
considered. Continue using as much volunteer assistance
as possible but the playhouse and the teepee need to be
maintained for the kids to use safely.
Security and Gate - Steve
Enclosed are two car stickers for each POA member. If
additional stickers are needed for vehicles that
frequently visit Leatherwood, they may be secured in the
Welcome Center. For infrequent visitors, hang tags are
available for their use. They may be secured at the
Welcome Center or you may contact Russ, 336-973-2333 or
email simmonssp@aol.com and I will mail a tag to you.
All cars passing through the gate should have
Leatherwood identification to assist the security
personnel. See the yellow insert for positioning of the
sticker on your window.
Keys Cabin - David Bridgers
Enclosed is a listing of items needed to secure Keys
Cabin from the elements and to maintain the safety of
those who pass by or "explore." If you would like to
volunteer any materials, funds to buy materials or labor
for the "shoring up" of the cabin, contact David at
_______ or Russ at 336-973-2333 or simmonssp@aol.com.
Fire Concerns - Russ, Eileen, Curt, Barbara,
Raymond
Evacuation route plans continue moving forward. The
Forest Service and Ferguson Fire Departments visited
last month and are to get back with Leatherwood.
ATVs - Firearms -- Russ
The covenants state that ATVs and weapons (and their
discharge) are not allowed in Leatherwood. Please remind
your guests of these rules. The POA is asking that the
barn's ATV be marked "Service Vehicle" thereby
authorizing its necessary use and reducing the
possibility of confusion.
Trail Clean Up Day -- Russ
7 December 2002. We had an excellent turnout last year,
it would be nice to have even more people this year!
Please contact Abbie, 336-973-5044, for your assignment.
Abbie is looking forward to providing hot dogs,
hamburgers, etc., for the workers.
Driveway Runoff - POA
Several driveways are eroding. This will cause the POA
to clean ditches and culverts. Please check yours.
Election -- Russ
At the next general meeting we will need to elect three
members to the board. If you are interested in serving
as a volunteer on the board, please contact any board
member and let them know.
Entertainment Committee -- Delaine, Eileen
General Meeting: 22 Feb, 3 PM, Darby Center, followed by
a meal. Details to follow.
Respectfully Submitted, Russ Simmons, President.
